Art Field Trip

I'm headed out for the day with out-of-town guest artists Karen Jacobs, Linda Stanley, and Annette Bush to give them a tour of West Coast Florida art venues. We'll have lots of stories tomorrow, I'm sure! Stay tuned. Meanwhile, explore their blogs and websites.

I met all of them about four years ago through a larger internet painters' group. Various small groups of these artists get together now and then at interesting places around the country and the world. This exact same group who is getting together today went to Atlanta three years ago, which I wrote about here.

They met for two weeks in New York for the Christo Gates exhibit, which I also missed, and a few of us met in Miami for ArtBasel in 2006.

Gotta love the internet for expanding real life connections with like minded people.

Another Haiku Painting

Well, this one isn't done yet, but I plan to be inspired by this crop from one of my squeegees.

I actually have two more new paintings to show you, but they are still drying and the gel still hasn't cleared.

Key West Art Bar

The brand new Key West Art Bar is up and running, and I still have to get my care package of paintings down there. Mother's Day seriously curtailed my progress toward that goal, but today I'm back at full speed in the studio.

As soon as they have their website, I'll provide that link. In the meantime, check out gallery owner Barb's truly informative and fun blog Ask ArtSlut. It's definitely not to be missed. This woman is a great marketer. (Oh -- and watch her video too!)

Help Stamp Out Hunger Today!

Today is the day to leave non-perishable food items next to your mailbox for your postal carrier to deliver to your local food bank. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Here is the link for more information.

You may already be aware of the desperate situation of our nation's foodbanks. If not, I encourage you to get involved in your area.

Some additional links are America's Second Harvest and The Hunger Site.

My new panels are here and I'm ready to paint! However, tomorrow being Mother's Day and all, it probably won't be a work day. I hope to dip into some paint today.

Haiku 44

"Haiku 44" - Acrylic on Cradled Masonite
8 x 8 x 2"

I've been working so feverishly on these small ones for the gallery that I should just post them in my Daily Paintings blog. I keep hoping that working on these will give me courage to begin on the vertical panels. I have been putting them off big time.

My dogs are at the hairdresser's today, so maybe I should just plunge in and start on the long panels. It certainly is quiet around here.

I Don't Have Enough Paintings

"Haiku 45"- Acrylic on Cradled Masonite
8 x 8 x 2

The owner of the new gallery in Key West wrote me back after looking at my available inventory of small canvases, letting me know that she'd rather get nine of my small boxes, plus a baker's dozen of little baby canvases. So as luck would have it, the boxes I'm currently working on will go to Key West, plus I had to order just one more to bring the total of available pieces to nine. So because of course I don't want to be out of those, and because of course it's silly to order just one thing . . . I ordered six more! Plus another gallon of self-leveling clear gel.

It's all good. I love having a reason to paint.

ArtXP

My friends at ArtXP in Louisville, Kentucky, have been working on a beautiful brand new website, and though they're still tweaking it here and there, it's close enough now to show you some of the fun features to come. I love the magazine complete with sound effects when you flip the pages. I've subscribed to Carl Hamilton's blog so I can keep up with what's going on from his perspective on the art business.

Be sure to check out the work of Robin Walker on their site. Her blog is a permanent fixture of my blogroll. If you look closely, you'll find some of my work in their catalog as well.
